Pediculosis is one of the annoying skin diseases that affect the head and body, and many people are bothered by it and are looking for a permanent treatment for it, and therefore we will talk in this article about lice and we will define them and mention the methods of treatment and disposal.

What are lice?

It is a small insect that measures about 2.5 millimeters in length. This insect is characterized by several characteristics, including:

  • This insect feeds on human blood
  • Is considered small; It is almost the size of a sesame seed
  • It has six legs
  • Clinging to the scalp and neck
  • This insect ovulates, and its eggs stick to the hair near the scalp, and it is difficult to see.

The groups most affected by lice

Spread lice often among school students, especially younger ones in elementary school; As children at this age when playing together come close to each other, and they act in simple ways that help the transmission of lice between them, so you see them sharing hair clips, hats and other head tools. Adults may also get lice by taking the infection from their children.

How do lice spread?

Lice cannot jump or fly from person to person, so this insect spreads through direct contact with the head; As this contact allows lice to move from one hair to another, and lice can survive for a short time on personal things such as a brush, or clothes, etc., so each child must have his own hairbrush to avoid the transmission of lice from one person to another.

How are lice found?

Although lice are small, they can be seen with the naked eye. The lice on the head are white, brown, or dark gray, and are usually found behind the ears or at the back of the neck. Lice eggs, called nits, are round or oval-shaped patches that are firmly attached to the hair near the scalp, and must be removed from the hair. An effective way to find lice is to comb out damp hair.

Symptoms of pediculosis

Itching is the most common symptom and a major alarm that draws attention to the presence of lice in the head, and it begins weeks or even months ago, and itching is due to the appearance of this insect by moving in the head.

Treating pediculosis

Lice cannot be eliminated automatically. There are some steps that must be followed to get rid of lice in hair, including:

  • You should be treated with shampoo for lice, and you must follow the instructions on it.
  • Use a comb designed for lice and nits.
  • Preferably use mayonnaise and white vinegar, or tea tree oil. These ingredients are effective in getting rid of lice; Too much mayonnaise suffocates the lice if applied to the hair, and the vinegar in turn dissolves the mucilage that helps the insect to stay attached to the hair.

Although lice do not stay on the bed for a long time, it is best to get rid of them by washing the bed and clothes that the person with lice was wearing.
