Pregnancy analysis

It is often recommended to do a pregnancy analysis after noticing one of the early signs of pregnancy , the most important of which is; Absent menstruation (Missed period), fatigue, increased urination, swollen breasts, nausea , and vomiting. [1] The pregnancy analysis is based on the examination of the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) hormone , which is produced by the placenta after implantation , the fertilized egg (in the lining of the uterus ) in the uterus : Fertilized egg.And because the time at which the ovulation process occurs varies from one woman to another, and differs in the same woman from month to month, and because the implantation process may occur at different times as well; It is difficult to determine the appropriate time for the emergence of the pregnancy hormone in quantities that can be detected, so it is preferable to wait for a period of not less than a week from the absence of the menstrual cycle for the examination to get an accurate result. It is worth noting that the amount of HRH doubles every two or three days during the first period of pregnancy . [2]

Pregnancy analysis with salt

The idea of using household materials to analyze pregnancy has spread, including salt , soap , bleach , toothpaste and other natural materials. Regarding the analysis of pregnancy with salt, the procedure is performed by placing the urine in a container and then adding salt to it, and if the salt becomes like cheese, then this reflects a positive result, meaning that the woman is pregnant, otherwise it indicates that there is no pregnancy. [3] But after our research in reliable scientific sites; We have not found any scientific studies that support the analysis of pregnancy with salt, and accordingly we recommend that you conduct a pregnancy analysis using reliable methods whose use is based on strong scientific evidence, and the following is an explanation.

Home urine analysis

Women prefer the Home pregnancy test over others because of its speed, ease of use, and because it is inexpensive, maintains privacy, and can be purchased from the pharmacy without the need for a prescription. [4]

Accuracy of a home pregnancy test

The accuracy of the home pregnancy test may reach nearly 99%, and the accuracy of the test depends on several things, including: [5]

  • How to use: To get an accurate result, you must follow the instructions carefully, review the expiration date of the test device , and wait ten minutes before reading the result.
  • When to use: It is preferable to use the test one week after the absence of a period. In order for the hormone concentration to be detectable, it is preferable to perform the test in the morning.
  • Women-specific factors: women differ in the time of ovulation and the time of implantation of the fertilized egg, and therefore the time for the appearance of the HGR hormone in the urine varies; As 10% of women implantation occurs after the first day of missing a period.
  • Brand name used: Some home pregnancy screening devices are more sensitive than others to the detection of hCG.

Ways to do a home pregnancy test

A home pregnancy test can be done by following one of the following methods: [4]

  • The first method: directing the test stick directly to the urethra.
  • The second method: collecting urine in a container, then placing the test stick in the urine.
  • The third method: collect the urine in a bowl, then put some drops of urine into another container using a dropper.

Home pregnancy test results

The results of the examination appear within a few minutes in the form of a line, color, sign (+) or sign (-), or the word pregnant or not pregnant may appear as in digital examinations , and the result is accepted even if it is faint or weak in color or signal, and it should be noted that there is an additional line or signal on the same device; As it indicates that the device is working properly, and it is called the control indicator , and if this signal does not appear, the test result cannot be approved. [4] [5]

It is advisable to repeat the examination within a week of the first examination; Whereas, the home pregnancy test may sometimes show a counter-factual result as follows: [4] [5]

  • False positive result: meaning that the woman gets a positive pregnancy result while she is not actually pregnant. The reason for this may be the presence of protein or blood in the urine, or the use of certain types of medicines such as; Some anti-convulsants , hypnotics , or infertility drugs that contain the hCG hormone.
  • False negative result: meaning that the woman gets a negative result while she is actually pregnant. The reason for this may be the expiration date of the home pregnancy test, or the test was performed incorrectly, or the test was done early, or drinking large amounts of water led to a dilution of the urine concentration, or the use of certain types of medicines such as; Diuretics , or antihistamines .

Urinalysis in the clinic

Urine analysis is done in the doctor's office to avoid any potential errors that may affect the accuracy of the test, but the home pregnancy test can match the accuracy of the pregnancy test in the clinic, and the examination in the clinic needs more time for the results to appear; As results can be obtained within a week, and this examination is more expensive than a home examination . [1]

Blood analysis

Pregnancy blood analysis is characterized by the ability to detect the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) hormone earlier than urine analysis. Where a laboratory analysis of pregnancy can be done by blood after six to eight days of ovulation, and it is considered very accurate, but it is more expensive than a home pregnancy test, and it takes more time to obtain results, which may exceed a week, so this type of examination is not used frequently. [1] [4]

Types of blood pregnancy analysis

There are two types of blood tests for pregnancy: [1] [4]

  • Examination of the hormone chorionic gonadotropin Human Specific: ; Where this test is used to find out whether there is pregnancy or not, by detecting the presence of the pregnancy hormone or the human chorionic gonadotropin, but without knowing its exact quantity.
  • Examination of the hormone gonadotropin Human chorionic Quantitative: ; This test is considered very accurate compared to a specific blood test and a urine test. It measures the actual amount of hCG in the blood, and it can detect small amounts of the hormone. It is worth noting that this examination is important to find out some problems during pregnancy in cooperation with other tests, and among these problems is ectopic pregnancy or known as ectopic pregnancy .
