Contracture of the uterus during pregnancy
Cramps in the first trimester of pregnancy
These contractions occur in the first weeks of pregnancy, to prepare the body to adapt to the changes in pregnancy. These contractions include constipation, dehydration, and gas.
Braxton Hicks contractions
Braxton Hicks contractions begin in the third trimester of pregnancy, and these contractions are usually constant and mild, and may occur with women in their normal position, without pregnancy.
Premature labor contractions
These contractions occur in cases of premature labor, as they begin before the 37th week or the 20th week of pregnancy, which sometimes leads to a miscarriage, and the doctor may be able to take some medical measures to prevent the occurrence of a miscarriage, or delay the delivery to its normal time.
Contractions before childbirth
These contractions occur at the beginning of the last week of pregnancy, and may last for two or three days at times, and become frequent whenever labor approaches, and then increase every five minutes, and these contractions are irregular, and it may occur suddenly.
Actual labor contractions
These contractions occur in the final stage of pregnancy, that is, in the stage of childbirth, where they last for a maximum of four hours, and it must be noted that during active contractions the cervix becomes wider, but it is not sufficient to push the fetus out. The contractions become intense and the pressure on the fetus is greater.
Sexual intercourse during pregnancy
Orgasms lead to contractions in the uterus, but these contractions do not affect the normal time of labor, nor do they increase the likelihood of premature labor.
- Note: There are cases that require calling the doctor, such as feeling strong contractions during pregnancy, before the due date, or feeling repeated contractions during the process of urination, or the sensation of the umbilical cord sliding towards the vaginal canal.
Contractions of the uterus during menstruation
The uterus continues to contract during menstruation, as these contractions are described as waves of contraction, or endometrial waves, and these contractions occur twice a minute, and may last for a quarter of a second, and it must be noted that these contractions are uncomfortable and often painful. However, they are still milder than the cramps that occur during labor.
