The normal blood sugar level ranges between 70-110 mg / dl and many people are exposed to hypoglycemia (glucose), especially people with diabetes where the blood sugar level is 70 mg / dl or less.

Causes of hypoglycemia

  • The nature of the diet: Especially people who use insulin therapy, in some cases the amount of insulin is greater than the amount of carbohydrates required to eat at one meal. Other times, some dietary practices may lead to low blood sugar, including:
    • Use insulin and eat a meal late afterwards.
    • If you drink alcohol without eating.
    • Using insulin without eating a meal.
  • Some medicines may lead to low blood sugar: such as insulin, some diabetes medicines that are taken orally, and other medicines that are not specific to treat diabetes, and if the cause of hypoglycemia is one of those medicines, the patient must record the time, date, and symptoms he suffered and tell her For the attending physician to take an appropriate action in adjusting the dosage of medicines.
  • Exercising or exercising too hard can sometimes lead to hypoglycemia.
  • Some diseases and disorders lead to hypoglycemia, such as: pituitary disorder, Addison's disease, and some tumors such as pancreatic tumor.

  • Eat 15g of simple carbohydrates (like a spoonful of sugar)
  • Recheck sugar after 15 minutes.
  • If the deficiency continues, you must repeat the above.
  • When the sugar level returns to normal, eat a snack if the main meal is an hour or more later.

It is very important to inform the doctor if you suffer from diabetes and you have episodes of hypoglycemia, especially if they are repeated more than once during one week.
