an introduction

The tongue is a very important organ of the human body. This is because it performs many important functions, and in this article we will deal with some information about this organ, its components, functions, and how to preserve it from material and moral ills.

Of what makes the tongue

The tongue consists of:

  1. Muscle fibers count as thousands of fibers, and these fibers are permeated with fat cells.
  2. Squamous epithelium, which is the mucous membrane that covers the entire tongue.
  3. Prominent protrusions spread over the surface of the tongue significantly, and with these protrusions there is the opening for the taste buds.

These are the most prominent components of the tongue, what are the functions of this important muscle?

What are the functions of the tongue

The tongue has many functions that it performs, and they are important functions for the human being, as follows:

  • The function of taste, and we will mention in the next lines the ways and means in which the tongue tastes foods.
  • Chewing, the tongue helps the teeth to chew and move food.
  • Swallowing, were it not for the tongue a person would not have been able to swallow food.
  • Speech, which is the most important function for a person being a social creature, as speech is the first means of social communication between people.

How does the tongue taste foods?

Foods are of many types, some of which are sweet, some are bitter, some are salty, and some are sour, so how can a muscle of the tongue taste these foods?

The tongue contains - as previously mentioned - taste buds, and these buds are spread over the surface of the tongue, and through them the tongue can taste foods, and below we will learn how the tongue tastes foods:

  1. The tip of the tongue contains taste buds that are responsible for a sweet taste.
  2. The edges and side surfaces of the tongue contain taste buds that are responsible for taste salty and sour.
  3. The back of the tongue contains taste buds that are responsible for the bitter taste.

How does speech function

Speech is the most prominent means of social communication among people, and the tongue is the organ responsible for the function of speech, but it participates with other exits to pronounce sounds, and of course the tongue, like other members, receives the signal from the brain to perform its function. The brain, this is reflected in the tongue and becomes unable to speak, as for the exits of sounds and letters it is a stand-alone science, the article does not expand to explain, it is called (phonology), but what we would like to point out is that the tongue is responsible for the function of speech, there are organs Others share with the tongue in the pronunciation of sounds, and any defect in those organs may affect the proper articulation of sounds.

Are there diseases that affect the tongue?

The tongue is an organ like all other human organs, and it is affected by what affects human beings, and the most famous thing that can happen to the tongue: is the accumulation of bacteria in the tongue, and this leads to the emission of an unpleasant smell to the mouth as we will talk in the next lines. As for the change in the color of the tongue, that means that there is a defect in an organ Another part of the human body, for example, if the color of the tongue tends to be blue, then this means a disease in the heart or respiratory system, if its color tends to yellow, then this means that the level of yellowness in the blood is high, if it is white in color, then this means that there is a defect in the system Digestive system, or a high temperature ... and so on.

The tongue is an organ that is affected by diseases that affect other organs, so how can we protect this tongue from diseases? This is what we will discuss in detail in the next paragraph, God willing.

How do I keep my tongue

The tongue is one of the strongest muscles in the human body, if not the strongest at all, and it is a very important muscle for humans, so how do we preserve our tongues? Before we talk about how to preserve our tongues, we have to know that tongue lesions are of two types: physical lesions, and moral pests, and we will talk about how to preserve our tongues according to these two types.

* Preserving our tongues from material pests : There are many diseases that may affect the tongue, and prevention is a thousand times better than treatment, and we can protect our tongues from diseases by following the following methods:

  1. Cleaning the tongue continuously, by using a toothpick or toothbrush, helps protect the tongue from bacteria that can colonize the tongue, which is a fertile and ideal environment for bacteria, and those bacteria lead to the emission of unpleasant odors to the mouth.
  2. Not to eat very hot food or drinks, as they burn the tongue and affect the sense of taste.
  3. Correct nutrition, the health of nutrition has a major role in preserving the body in general, and the body systems such as the digestive and respiratory systems in particular, any imbalance in the functions of the body systems may affect the tongue, changing its color.

* Preserving our tongues from moral lesions: We mean here by moral pests: that is, lesions that harm a person in his religion and his morals, and we can preserve our tongues by following the following methods:

  1. Wetting the tongue with the remembrance of God, the most useful thing for a person to protect his tongue from missteps is to keep him busy with the remembrance of God Almighty, by reading the Qur’an, and the remembrances from the Holy Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - such as the morning and evening remembrances, the remembrance after prayer, the remembrance before sleep, and others Of the supplications, in addition to asking for forgiveness a lot, it has great benefits that are good for a person.
  2. Remember that what brings people into Hell the most is the tongue. The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said to Muadh, may God be pleased with him.
  3. Keeping the tongue from falling into lies, gossip, false testimony, backbiting, cursing, and slander, all of these scourges are dangerous pests for a person, the bad things gain him in his newspaper without feeling, and make him an outcast in his society.
  4. Remember that the tongue, like other prey, testifies against its owner on the Day of Resurrection. God Almighty said: “On the day their tongues, hands and feet will testify against them as they were doing.”
  5. Remember that a few words, possess a charming personality, prestige and reverence among those who know of the people, and the truthful and faithful - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - said: “Whoever believes in God and the Last Day, let him say good or be silent.”
  6. Not to delve into what he does not know, for the philosopher is rejected among the people.
  7. Not arguing with the fool, so leaving his arguments is better, because his arguments are like blowing into a socket with a hole, and it has no result other than when people think that you are both fools.

Thus, we have preserved our tongues from all pests, whether it is related to organic health, or moral health.

In conclusion, we must remember the words of God Almighty: “What a saying is pronounced except that he has a keen watchdog.” So we must pay close attention to what we say. People who care about the health of their tongue from the pests of bacteria, and neglects many sins, such as backbiting, gossip, and false utterance. By God, there is no God but Him, one pest is one that harms a person’s morals. And we have nothing of it except what we have done.

I ask God Almighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to protect our tongues from every statement that angered him, and to protect our souls from every act that involves disobedience, and may God bless the best of mankind, the truthful and faithful Muhammad, and upon his family and companions all, and whoever walks on his path, bless and peace.
