What is chloasma

Melasma is one of the most important problems that females suffer from at different ages, and we mean melasma which are small brown spots or pigmentations that appear on the surface of the skin, especially on the face, shoulders, upper chest, and other areas. This affects the appearance of pure skin, and exposes the girl to embarrassment and criticism at times, which causes her psychological problems and great dissatisfaction with the unwanted shape of her skin.

The reason for its appearance

We must know that melasma is an acquired characteristic, that is, it affects girls due to environmental or genetic factors that appear on the skin sometimes in childhood, and its appearance increases after puberty and old age, along with some stimulating factors that work on its appearance clearly. For your information, melasma may affect both males and females, but the rate of female infection is much higher, depending on the hormonal changes that affect them constantly.

Studies also indicate that melasma affects brown and brown skinned people more than white ones, that is, those who live in hot environments and are constantly exposed to ultraviolet rays.

Reasons for the appearance of melasma

  1. Genetic factor: Heredity is the main cause of many health problems, including melasma, as there is a percentage of people with melasma who have a genetic history of parents who have the same problem.
  2. Direct and repeated exposure to the sun’s rays at its harmful times, and exposing the skin to a large amount of ultraviolet rays that increase the melanin pigment that causes melanosis.
  3. Changes in hormones, in the case of disturbances in the level of some hormones in the female during pregnancy, she is exposed to the appearance of melasma on her skin in a very large percentage, especially in the last months of pregnancy.
  4. For some women, taking birth control pills may cause melasma to appear temporarily.
  5. Putting some cosmetics on the skin or taking some prescription drugs may cause melasma.

Melasma treatment

  1. Melasma treatment is determined by the time that has passed since its inception, its severity, the type of skin and the cause of its appearance. If the reason is to take hormone pills, you must wait until the end of taking them.
  2. Melasma that appears on oily skin can be treated using fruit acid peeling mixed with rice flour, in addition to citric acid.
  3. Skin peeling is one of the best treatments used to remove melasma, as the main peeling is done after a series of initial peels that are made at home, where you need a number of successive peels until the effect of melasma disappears completely.
